How can Geography make the world a better place
I´m currently studying Geography, specifically I´m in my second year and even so, I can say that this career is very, very important for society and its environment.
Geography is one of the few careers that has many specialties, because, as I mentioned in one of my previous posts, it´s dedicated to studying the physical and human phenomena that occur on our planet. For example, you can study how a river bed overflows, see it´s physical components, but you can also relate how this can affect the surrounding city.
Not giving a geographical perspective to the things that surround us can be very bad. Everything that is happening today is a geographical phenomenon, it has a spatial and temporal explanation, and must be studied as such, since it will give a much more interesting view of things, and can be of great help, even more so in these time where climate change is present.
It´s a topic that today is not being highly valued, that is why many professionals are needed to dedicate themselves to this field. Personally, I see myself as a future professional who will value these studies from a more social perspective, considering the value of communities to analyze the physical environment that surrounds us. I hope to learn and grow professionally on this subject, as it is so varied that I may not be locked into one of its areas (or perhaps yes, you never know).
In short, the geography career provides the tools so that we can understand our world, study it, explore it, and also help you make it much better.
It's not just being a history and geography teacher, or making maps, it's something much more important.
